Stage 02.02

Using your 3-dimensional diagrams from Stage 02.01, begin constructing your Virtual Evisceration Plates. For this exercise, we are looking at how a pairing of diagrams might work together as they interact in a virtual environment.

To begin, select one of your 3-dimensional diagrams and divide it into sections (remember that one (1) of your Virtual Evisceration Plates must use a diagram derived from surface for this step). Sectioning of the diagram should be based on an analysis of the original object which identifies points of interest. These points of interest will hold a potential for interaction between the various diagrams. Once the diagram has been sectioned, begin to explode the diagram along one axis.

Upon completion of the sectional study, choose another of your 3-dimensional diagrams, and insert it within the exploded sectional diagram. This diagram will not be sectioned, and will act as a conceptual anchor point back to the original object.

At this point, where both diagrams are floating in virtual space, you should use an appropriate operational strategy to solve for any conflicts where the diagrams intersect. For instance, if the two diagrams overlap in a shared space condition, it may be that the secondary diagram acts as a cutting mechanism on the sectional diagram. In the end, there should be no overlap between the diagrams, and the operational strategies used should read clearly.

Once the diagrams have been joined into a singular study, export an isometric view into either Illustrator or InDesign. Where the secondary diagram is visible, it should be shaded with black fill set to 25% opacity. This fill layer should be set below any line work which occurs. Dashed lines should be used to indicate hidden geometry, and dotted lines should indicate how the exploded sectional elements connect along their axis.
Each Virtual Evisceration Plate should then be submitted as a horizontally oriented jpeg measuring 3200x2000 pixels.

Files should be downloaded to your archlab folder by 8:30 AM, and named as follows:

Stage 02.01 continued

Continue with the 3-dimensional diagramming of your objects. In order to allow yourself more source material, you should complete these diagrams prior to commencing work on the Virtual Evisceration Plates.
